The year 2010 has been not very lucky year for Tollywood. Execpt for a few good movies at the box office, most of them were average grocessors and the rest failed. Telugu industry went through a tough year in terms of making good movies, raking good moolah & with industry stirs & fights from various sections, Bandhs, IPL-4 which further added to it. The T agitation has added its flavour this year and the effects & after affects were seen through the frist quarter completely and the first half of second quarter.
The year started with a super duper hit from Balakrishna in the form of Simha. This movie can now be counted in the top ten tollywood grocessors of all time and a big hit in the list of hero Balakrishna.
There were countalbe hits this year. Simha, Adurs, Ye Maya Chesave, Leader, Sneha Geetam, Darling, Betting Bangara Raju, Maryada Ramanna, Brindavanam.
At the same time big budget movies with lots of expectations failed at the BO. Pawan Kalyan starrer komaram puli directed by SJ Suriyah failed to make the magic of the same combination which they created a decade ago for the film Kushi. Mahesh Babu & Trivikram's Khaleja also bombed at the BO. Anuskha couldn't show the same grace in her movie Panchakshari which she showed in last year's blockbuster Arundathi. Ravi Teja's Don Seenu also failed to impress. Ram Charan's most awaited movie after Magadheera, which set a lot of expectations also couldn't stand. It also failed at the box office. Nagarjuna's Kedi was also a let down. Allu Arjun's Varudu released in lot of hype couldn't live up to the expectations. Siddarth's Bava couldn't leave any traces at all. Dil Raju's Maro Charitra which was a remake of yesteryear's movie with the same title was a failure too. All in all the loss incurred by the big budget films was a huge sum.
Dubbed version films from the neighbourhood worked well this year. Superstar Rajnikant's Robo was a super hit which rained moolah at the box office. It was the biggest hit in terms of revenue collections this year. Surya's Yamudu was also a average grocessor. His brother Karthi's both the movies did well. Yuganiki OKkadu & Awara grocessed reasonablly. At the same time Mani Ratnam's Ravan failed miserably.
Ramgopal Verma's Rakta charitra 1 & 2 were released with lot of controversies around it. 1st part did reasonably at the BO, but 2nd part coundn'd create the same magic.
The year 2010 has saw new faces who climbed to the top quickly, thereby started contesting for the numero uno position. Samantha Ruth Prabhu in Ye Maya Chesava as Jesse became a house hold name. She was lucky to make her tollywood debut against Naga Chaitanya. Later she had a chance to act alongside NTR Jr in Brindavanam. Samantha has movies lined up with Mahesh Babu & Pawan Kalyan as well. Tapsee made her debut in K Raghavendra rao's Jummandi Nadham. She also has few movie lined up for release later this year and early next year.

The summer of 2009, around 40 movies are expected to hit the theaters which have movies from big banners as well as from smaller ones. Movies from all generes are produced here. The annual turnover for the year 2008 touched in excess of 3500 crores as per the industry sources. Big Banner movies are usually released during major festivals seasons in the state. Sankranthi & Dussera-Diwali seaons being the prominent ones. Movies here which become hit at the box office also swell at the revenue collections. Established Hero's here enjoy the status of demigods.
New generation hero's have followed the path of the veterans by etching a name for them selves in the Film Industry as well as adding thousands of fan following. Though most of the newer generation hero's like Mahesh Babu, NTR Jr, Allu Arjun, Ram Chanan Teja, Naga Chaitanya, RaNa come with a filmy background, Tollywood is a place where people with no filmy god father around also made their way.
From the year 2006 Small movies gained their importance in Tollywood. New directors with different approach and ideas have made movies which touched the audiences hearts. Seasoned directors have also delivered hits at the same time, but as the budget of the movie swells, the risk also increases proportionately.
Heroines form the north now-a-days definately want to act in atleast one movie in Telugu, which they think will change their career in terms of position and remunaration. As usual the year 2009 has also added a lot of fresh talent from both North & South. New faces like Kruthi Karbanda, Madhurima, Madhavi Latha, Bindu Madhavi, Swathi Priya made their debut in Tollywood. Already leading ladies in other film industries like Vimala Raman made their debut. Child artiste-turned heroines also showed up in the likes of Shweta Basu Prasad & Shamili.
Leading ladies here like Trisha, Nayantara followed Asin to bollywood to try their luck there. Trisha is acting along side Akshay Kumar in a movie titled "Khatta Meeta." Asin, post Ghajani has not had a great run there even after her new movie London Dreams co-starred with Salman Khan released. Nayantara is waiting for her chance who is supposed to act in a bollywood movie along side with a top hero there in the direction of Prabhu Deva.
Year 2010 has added new faces again in the likes of Samantha Ruth Prablu who in her debut film ye maya chesava won hearts of the viewers. Richa Gangopadhaya & Priya Anand made their dream debut in the movie Leader along side RaNa. Saranya Mohan Tapsee, Deeksha Seth, Lekha Washinton, Praneetha, Nisha Agarwal, Nikesha Patel, Bhanu Mehra, Sheena, Chitrangada Singh, Shazahn Padamsee made their debut this year.
All in all Tollywood is definately a place to work for people who have the urge and passion to be a part of Cinema!!!.
